Zoom XL
This is a great no-nonsense 1.2m - 48in 3D/Sport foamie plane. Simple, functional, and proven construction methods and hardware kit. With the recommended Power combo, it is full 3D capable and has excellent presence in the air. Landing gear is removable if you are flying off grass. If you plan to do lots of touch and goes, beef up the sides of the fuselage with some thin strips of wood (popsicle stick) or something to give the landing gear block a little more support where it mounts in the fuselage. On mine I did also add the Twisted Hobbys 39-48in Tail Wheel Kit which provided a little more ground control, but certainly not needed or necessary. Parts count is super low and the included hard copy instructions were easy to follow. Using a combination of FoamTac, Thick and Thin CA, this plane can be ready to fly in four or five evenings by a modeler of average skills. Center of Gravity spec in the manual it spot on. Motor mount comes with some right angle built in; I did add a slight amount of down thrust by placing a washer behind the two top motor mount tabs. It flies very close to neutral upright and inverted with little to no coupling in knife edge flight. Roll and Pitch authority are very respectful and will likely satisfy all but the most insane and experienced 3D pilots. I would highly recommend this model for pilots that are looking for something a little bigger than the Crack Yak XL / Velocity / Edge 540 series of models.
